I took this photograph of a street performer within Stoke-on-Trent. The photograph is lit only by natural light during the day, I feel this has provided the photograph with much stronger highlights and has highlighted the subject within the photograph effectively. I also feel that the lighting has provided higher contrast providing greater depth of field as the subject appears much closer than the dark background. My photograph is empathetic towards the subject as I have captured them in motion making them appear glamorous, because of this I feel that the genre is a mix of both art and fashion. – jamescphotos©

I produced this Landscape photograph within the town of Stafford, the piece of architecture/history shown in the photograph is Stafford castle, I feel the genre of my landscape photograph is primarily gallery based as it is aesthetically pleasing to the eye although I also feel that its sub-genre is documentary as it acts as a record of history. – jamescphotos©

Stoke-on-Trent was once well known for its pottery industry although during recent years the industry has somewhat disappeared, leaving most pottery factories and kilns within Stoke abandoned. Recently I gained access to one of these building and decided to photograph it from both the inside and out. I decided to shoot the photographs within black and white in order to provide a gloomier emotive feel to the shoot, Here are some shots. – jamescphotos©

Experimentation with white balance, composition and lighting – jamescphotos©

Through altering white balance I am able to generate a silhouette effect. The use of appropriate composition has also allowed me to produce photos which highlight linear patterns. The fact that the the blinds are backlight through the window behind highlights the harshness of edges and change in lighting. – jamescphotos©

Playing with White Balance

Today within my course I studied white balance and the effect different white balances can have on the lighting within photographs taken. The use of different white balances other than automatic combined with the manipulation of exposure preference enabled me to achieve desired effects and lighting much easier. – jamescphotos©

Visit to Coventry Cathedral – jamescphotos©

Most days I walk to Coventry Cathedral and observe the architecture and sculptures within. What I find very interesting is the story behind the current state of the cathedral as it is left in mostly ruins from the world war. it is an incredibly interesting and beautiful landmark within Coventry and so I decided to photograph it. – jamescphotos©

Visit to the Herbert Art Gallery

The other day I visited the Herbert Art gallery and decided to view the current photography exhibition; People of Indian, by Jason Scott Tilley. The exhibition features various portraits in which express the way we may capture a moment or memory through photography.

The featured photographs are very interesting and may cause the viewer to wonder what the being within the photos story is and what their importance is to Jason Scott Tilley. Visiting the gallery left me incredibly inspired to capture moments and travel.
